A big box from Italy showed up yesterday, and it was filled with...well you guessed it...NEW FRAMES!!! We ordered these way back in October, at the Paris show, and they are just now showing up...all just part of the Italian charm :) Come to think of it, we can hardly even communicate with this factory. Brunetta who takes our order every year is really really nice, but speaks almost no English and our Italian is...uhh...well...not so much. But every time we get a box of these frames we remember why we go through the extra work to get them, because they're beautiful. They will sell quickly, so get here soon.

Sooooooooo.......We got a new line the other day. There's a couple of hip (and socially conscious) kids from Portland working on this new project called 141. Instead of trying to convey what they're doing just check out their website Here!

Aside from 141 having a great mission the frames look great too. We snapped some pictures of the frames we got in stock below. There are some rich matte finishes along with some very supple horn colorways, and all of the shapes are totally what's going on right now.

This is something really cool for us. Our friend Menno, who runs his family's frame factory in Holland, sent us these special pieces. They were made to mark the factories 75th year of production. Okay some exciting stuff came to us yesterday, by way of Belgium. It's a new line called Louis! These frames are incredible. Really vibrant colors are used throughout the line, and they cover their neutral bases too....but what's really impressive is how great the shapes are. No foo foo dingle decorations, just really great clean silhouettes. These are shapes that come from someone who really understands that glasses are worn on the face, they don't just look cool sitting on a shelf.

We received a big box of goodness today from Belgium. The contents??? Some really great stuff for all you people out there with smaller faces. We got plastics, metals, retro, modern, and all for small faces. The colorways are chosen really well too...great classic outer colors matched with some really fun highlight colors.

Just to let everyone know the Eyes on Fremont fall buying schedule is as follows:

Sept. 22nd-Sept. 24th Elizabeth, Aimee and Nate will be attending Vision Expo West in Las Vegas. They will be scouting out all the latest trends for lenses, lens processing equipment, and optical tools. Not one of the better shows for frames...but a really good one to see what's new and happening in the world of lenses.

Sept. 29-Oct. 2nd Nate will be meeting Stan & Linda in Paris, France for Silmo. This is where the trend setting will be done for the Fall and Winter! Paris is always on the edge of what's happening for frame styles. This is where we can scout out a lot of companies that we would not otherwise have access to, due to the fact a great number of them have no presence here in the States.

We'll keep you posted on the findings!

This is a cool new shape that we just got a small, limited, quantity of. This shape is kind of a "no brainer," it's such a nice feminine twist on the old horn rim. The fade colors are pretty hot too.

Just got in some really cool new frames from some friends of ours in Canada. They may look just like other plastics you've seen, but the thing is they're not. They're really light weight, compared to regular acetate. They're rubbery feeling, unlike regular acetate. Overall a really cool new take on the classic acetate.

This is our new friend Wences. He owns an expert boat detailing service here in Seattle, called Bow 2 Stern. It's down on Lake Union, and if EOF had a boat, we'd take it to Wences :) His new carbon fiber, rimless frames are pretty stinking cool.

What you might notice is that you can really see his lenses in this picture. That is because there is no Anti-Reflective coating on his lenses. We did this on purpose. Wences is around a lot of chemicals for work, and that can lead to peeling and cracking of coatings on the lens. Anti-Reflective coatings work very well for most people, but in some cases it's better to go without.

Got some new frames in today...something a little bit different this time. The temples are actually made of carbon fiber...REAL carbon fiber, not faux carbon fiber, not carbon fiber textured, not carbon fiber wrapped, but REAL carbon fiber. I know it may not seem like such a big deal, but these are really really cool in person. Standard rimless format with such a great detail, makes for a great looked dressed up or just hanging around in a t-shirt and jeans.

Frame Story...

As we all know vintage eye wear is pretty big right now. Chances are if you have looked at very many vintage frames, you have probably seen little shield pins in the shape of a V. That V stands for Victory Optical. Founded in the 40's Victory Optical was one of the largest optical manufacturers in the US.

Fast forward to present day...Bill Marfuggi, the Grandson of Vincent Salierno- Founder of Victory Optical, has resurrected the company. The great part about this? You can now get authentic vintage frames, made from the original blueprints of the 40's, 50's and 60's, but made of fresh new (not 50 year old) materials.

Ranging from really great classic horn rims to cat eyes, that are REALLY cat eyes, to some outstanding sunglasses, there is quite a bit of range in the line. Below our frame guru Bill is wearing his new Victory frames, and looking pretty darn good!

What you are looking at are some new (err uhh...old) arrivals from the NY Show. Well these weren't from the show. These were found buried in a friends Upper West Side basement. The amount of time they have been laying dormant could probably be measured in decades. They're great! Vintage is getting tougher and tougher to find, so we get pretty excited when we come across a find like this.

Check it out! Our friend Mark just sent us this shipment of really great small plastic feminine shapes. We know that it is pretty hard for the petite faces of the world to find glasses. So if you are out there and hunting, now is a good time to get here. There are a number of different sizes and colors, but they will go fast.

NY 2011....

Look it's Stan and Nate on top of the Empire State Building. That must mean one thing...Yes, it was New York Show this past week. Of all the times Stan has been to NYC, this was his first trip to the top of the iconic edifice. You guys probably don't care too much about that though, so here's the real scoop:

Shapes: One of the biggest trends seen this year was the softening of shapes. There were lots of rounds and ovals that were there. At the show, and around the happening streets of Manhattan, you would see these softer shapes, even the basic rectangles seemed to round off just a bit. Shapes are still getting a little bit larger as well, bust still not to the enormous 70's/80's big. Most of the size increase seems to be from top to bottom of the frames.

Color: This is a good time for color in glasses. Colors have never been so well matched or intricate. A big thing to note was blocking of colors. Say a tortoise front of the frame with navy temples, no stripes, no patterns, just two well paired blocks of colors. On the flip side there were also a number of new sandwiched plastic laminates. Many times these would be in colors that were not new, but put together in new ways. The advent of fade colors to metal frames is also here (some are en route to Eyes on Fremont as this is being written.) For the most part color is working itself into more daily styles.

Overall: NY 2011 was a great show. It seemed like the designers were excited with what they were doing. Also there seemed to be a big push against the cheesey bling bling looks of the world...needless to say Eyes on Fremont has never been to big into the Bling Bling...lol. New posts will follow as soon as the new shipments start to arrive.

Meet the Designer...

This is Dom and his lovely wife Jenny. They are the dynamic duo behind V. Design. Jenny handles the business end of things while Dom is the designer...and what a designer he is. Every year in Paris when we see the line it never lets us down. Very bold form and shapes, on both temples and fronts, are a consistent theme year to year. Couple that with a very French selection of colorways, and you get something you don't see every day. Take a peek at some of the frames we just received below:As you can see these may not be the frames for everyone, they are bold and they are colorful. But if you are looking for something a little more special than most other things, these frames may be in your future.

He investigated to find the ones Mickey was wearing cost about $400, he came here and found these(we announced their arrival HERE) for $225. They have a really cool matte crystal color with a satin steel temple. Jay got these hot off the press, and they definitely have our stamp of approval.

New Year...New Idea

It's a New Year, and this our first post, so we thought you would be interested in this new idea. Mayann is wearing a "One Day Frame," it is actually made out of cardboard. You can wear the frames for more than just one day, it's more just as long as they last. What happens is that you get one set of lenses, and one set of five frames (pictured below,) and you where them until they run out. Just something kind of new and cool we thought you guys might like.

This is Adam in his new specs. He came in with some very lack luster frames that he got elsewhere. We took his existing lenses and shaved them down to fit into this hip new stainless steel number. He was excited he could still use his old lenses and we were excited that he was able to have an affordable style upgrade. Win win situation!

These are some frames from Holland that we have had once before. The shapes are really tasteful remakes of very classic horn rim styles. It's really cool to see the timeless silhouettes in new materials and colors.One thing that we did not know, about these frames last time they were in, is the material that they are made of. We thought that they were made of stainless steel, we were wrong. These frames are actually made of a very specialized bronze alloy. Giving them their very supple feel and allowing for their oh so vibrant colors. It's hard to see just how special these frames are in the pictures. These frames are of the quality that your future grandchildren will dig them up in 50 years and they will be the next big thing...again.
